TEN years ago, Graaff-Reinet man George Adams got into a drunken knife fight with his best friend from across the road. He did not mean to kill him, but his friend died from his wounds and Adams was sentenced to 15 years in St Alban’s maximum security prison.
Today, 47-year-old Adams is a changed man. He is out on parole and was ordained a pastor, following years of theological study in prison.
He reconciled with his victim’s family while in prison and now even works with the man’s niece among the youth of Graaff-Reinet, encouraging them to stay away from alcohol, drugs and crime.
