Class acts for Citizens’ night

LAUGHTER and an earful of good music await the audience at the Herald GM Citizen of the Year awards on Friday night.

The metro’s unsung heroes will be acknowledged for their sterling work at a function at the Athenaeum in Central.

Funnyman Kurt Schoonraad is the MC, while Port Elizabeth musician Stuart Reece will be one of the acts.

The finalists are:

Ellen Lovemore: Assisted in setting up a new pre-primary class, providing all necessary resources.

Nosi Ncoyo: Foun- der of Vision4Women, that develops and empowers women.

Alex Sutherland: A drama teacher who rehabilitates disturbed maximum security male offenders.

Glenda Brunette: Takes care of crèches in Walmer township – “Walmer Angels Project”.

Jessica Naude: SPCA chairwoman driving initiatives in aid of animals.

Sondisa Magajana: Coaches deaf, blind and visually impaired children and women in defence.

Shelley Koekemoer: Assists sex workers through rehabilitation.

Alida Davis: Fosters children, helps families and funds soup kitchens.

Esme Zwenis: Founder of Hannah’s Arms, an NPO that saves abandoned babies.

Shaun Fondling: A teacher who revived rugby in Paterson.

Helena Cullis: Co-founded Cleft Friends, for families affected by cleft lips and palates.
