German aid in Walmer township

HE is almost 70 years old and still going strong, but German national Rolf Meder is not slowing down and plans to help others in need for years to come.

Although he is a retired school teacher of more than 30 years, Meder continues to educate others through the mainly Port Elizabeth-based Ubuhlobo Project, which he founded in Walmer township in 1999.

“People need help and we can bring it to them,” Meder said from Germany this week. “As long as I can do it, I will do it.”

Ubuhlobo, which means friendship in Xhosa, works in underprivileged areas of the Eastern Cape, in partnership with Germany.
