THOUSANDS of Port Elizabeth residents will flock to voting stations as the ANC and DA battle it out for control of the city centre today.

The ANC, which hopes to win the diverse Ward 5 from the DA, made a final push for votes yesterday, led by its Eastern Cape-born national leaders – Deputy Tourism Minister Thoko Xasa and Deputy Communications Minister Stella Ndabeni- Abrahams – on a sentimental walkabout of the iconic Donkin Reserve.

Meanwhile, the DA, bolstered by a landslide 85% victory in 2011, wrapped up its public campaign earlier in the week, making only “low key” last-minute phone calls yesterday to urge supporters to come out in their numbers today.
