Pearson pupil excels on clarinet


PEARSON pupil Mieke Struwig, 17, did the Nelson Mandela Bay arts community proud when she won a bronze medal at the Artscape National Youth Music Competition (ANYMC) in Cape Town last week.


Struwig, a Grade 11 pupil, who plays the clarinet, came up against 23 gifted musicians between the ages of 14 and 19. They all competed in categories for piano, strings, wind instruments and other orchestral instruments. "I got positive feedback and I think I did fairly well seeing that it was my first time competing at such a level," she said.


"I received R2500 with my medal for being runner-up and got another R2000 for playing as a semifinalist.
