Children's clinic runs on dignity and smiles


A QUIET corner of Port Elizabeth suburbia is a soft landing place for Nelson Mandela Bay children suffering from dread diseases and neurological conditions. Maureen Lamb, a soft-spoken former minister, "answered a call within a calling" when she went into paediatric palliative care.


This saw her spearheading the opening of the Northwood Children's Clinic in Mount Croix in 2010.


The clinic is one of nine community projects run under Operation Smile Madiba Bay. A modest sign instructing visitors not to park on neighbours' driveways greets guests at the clinic.
