Call for national policy on doing business with state

RECENT calls to stop public representatives from doing business with government gained momentum yesterday when politicians instructed the Association of Public Accounts Committees (Apac) to work on a national policy to make it unlawful.

Delegates at the Apac conference also called for strict consequences for civil servants and public representatives who did not comply with the proposed policy.

This comes months after calls made by Public Service and Administration Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and National Planning Minister Trevor Manuel that public servants should be outlawed from benefiting from government contracts.
