Temporary classrooms bring relief after fire

SCHOOL will finally return to normal today for pupils of Jubilee Park Primary who have had to attend classes in different shifts.

The school was forced to take these drastic measures after a fire gutted large parts of the Uitenhage building in May.

Ten temporary classrooms have in the meantime been erected by the Eastern Cape's Education and Public Works departments as a temporary solution.

Due to the lack of space and the condition of the school's structure after the disaster, a shift system had to be implemented to accommodate the 1195 pupils .

This required pupils in Grade R to Grade 3 to occupy the school in the morning until midday, while those in Grade 4 to Grade 7 came in until 4pm.

The modular classrooms will serve as a temporary alternative until permanent facilities, under the government's school makeover programme, are provided.
