'Super 6' gang: four released

A PORT Elizabeth mother's joy at being released from custody along with her daughter was short-lived yesterday as her son was ordered to spend another night behind bars.

Dylan Passet, 21, of Sherwood, was arrested on Tuesday last week on provisional charges of housebreaking and theft, theft from a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice.

The arrest of his mother, Debbie du Preez, 40, of Bluewater Bay, his sister Ashleigh Botha, and her boyfriend Vernon Strydom, both in their 20s and from North End, followed on Monday after police linked them to an alleged housebreaking syndicate in Port Elizabeth and stretching as far as Kenton- on-Sea and Plettenberg Bay.

At the time of their arrests police said they had been linked to at least 40 cases of housebreaking.

Yesterday, the state declined to enrol the matter against Du Preez, Botha and Strydom – all represented by attorney Ryno Scholtz – due to a lack of evidence, and they were released without having to appear in court.
