Mobilising US youth to help save rhino

A PASSION for animals and the outdoors has seen a Grahamstown teacher quit his job and wing his way to America to raise awareness about the plight of rhinos. With World Rhino Day on Sunday, Neale Howarth said if the world wanted to celebrate Rhino Day next year, global intervention was necessary.

The former Diocesan School for Girls teacher, who resigned earlier this year, arrived in America earlier this month and plans to travel across all 50 states raising awareness by speaking at schools.

"Rhinos are a global treasure and their numbers have collapsed by 95% over the past century. We are desperate to save these magnificent creatures for future generations to enjoy. We have come to realise that we cannot succeed without the efforts and assistance of the global community," the 32-year-old said.
