Deposed councillor hits out at ANC leadership


FIGHTING to keep his seat as the leader of the ANC's biggest branch in Nelson Mandela Bay, Mbongeni Bungane yesterday hit out at the ruling party's regional bosses, saying they were targeting him and anyone else who disagreed with how they ran the city.


Bungane, also the ANC councillor for the politically volatile Ward 41 in Joe Slovo township, is a vocal critic of the ANC's regional leadership and was an avid supporter of former mayor Zanoxolo Wayile.


Yesterday a group of about 500 of his supporters marched to the City Hall to hand over a memorandum demanding efficient service delivery in their ward as well as to ask that Bungane be given space to work without interference from his detractors.
