Focus on inner city's historic spaces

PUTTING people back into places that have history. This is the aim of the Urban Assembly Conference planned for next month by the Eastern Cape Institute of Architecture (ECIA) in Port Elizabeth, with a specific focus on rejuvenating the inner city.

ECIA committee member Debbie Wintermeyer said the purpose of the conference was for families and the public to take ownership of the inner city. "Representatives from Cape Town and Johannesburg will talk about the lessons they have learnt in reshaping their inner cities, and we will engage with the youth in terms of career guidance and workshops.

"The last day of the three-day conference will be the crux of our inner city development discussions where the public, academic and private sectors will engage with one another," Wintermeyer said.
