EC health bosses are 'serial murderers'

FORMER Eastern Cape health MEC Trudy Thomas called provincial Health Department bosses "serial murderers" at a heated media conference in East London yesterday.

The briefing by the Eastern Cape Health Crisis Action Coalition preceded a planned march to Health MEC Sicelo Gqobana's office in Bhisho tomorrow to protest against what it has described as the complete collapse of the public health system in the province.

It is demanding a response to a memo it intends handing over by October 11.

The protest action follows numerous failed attempts by the coalition to set up a meeting with Gqobana.

"We want to show the MEC how angry we are with him," Vuyokazi Matiso, of the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) and Section27, said.

"The march is the culmination of so many tries to meet with the MEC [to discuss] the collapse of the health system, which he kept on postponing.
