ANC bigwigs at NMMU rally

THE national and Eastern Cape wings of the ruling party put their weight behind the South African Students' Congress (Sasco) election campaign yesterday when ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte encouraged the students to take their campus back from the "sweetheart union".


Duarte was speaking at a Sasco rally at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University's south campus after the student party presented its manifesto ahead of the September 18 elections.


She encouraged the student organisation – whose election slogan is to put the R, for representation, back into Student Representative Council (SRC) – to instead put two Rs in its slogan, and add revolution to its campaign.
