Thousands visit newly revamped Bayworld

MORE than 5000 visitors took advantage of the good weather and flocked to the new and improved Bayworld complex in Port Elizabeth at the weekend.

After a multimillion-rand revamp, Bayworld attracted more than 4000 visitors on the opening day on Saturday and about 1500 yesterday.

And while there was much on offer, there were still questions about the facility's dolphins, which will remain at Hong Kong's Ocean Park for now.

Bayworld human resource officer Carlene du Randt said the popular attraction was "packed to capacity".

"Ticket sellers were overwhelmed and had to set up another ticket selling table. Today [Sunday] we have also had a good crowd," Du Randt said.

Bayworld's oceanarium has been closed since last October and the snake park since December, while the museum remained open.

Demi Brown, 5, of Palmridge, visited Bayworld for the first time yesterday with her mother, Martina Brown, and father, Duane Holburn.

"I was a little scared and did not touch the snake," Demi said.

Entry fees are: adults R35, children R25, pensioners and students R30.
