Man who confessed to killing girlfriend, released on R500 bail

A UITENHAGE man, who allegedly confessed to his mother that he had killed his girlfriend, was released on R500 bail yesterday.

Siena Jacobs, 64, of Tiryville, Uitenhage, said she encouraged her son, Karel Jacobs, 38, to turn himself in to the police on Friday shortly after he had confessed that he was responsible for the murder of his girlfriend, Charmaine Boesak, 32.

As a result, she is now the primary caregiver of the couple's six children, aged between two and 13.

"I told him [Karel] that this was the right thing to do. Although she was like a child to me, she was someone else's child. I said that if he is responsible, then he must tell the truth," she said.

The court case was postponed until October 1 for further investigation.
