Friends making a difference

FOUR childhood friends want to revive the sense of community they had growing up in Gelvandale and have established the Youth of Faith Foundation (YFF) to do just that.

The foundation is the brainchild of Marius Baatjies and Jade Smith, both 22 and unemployed, as well as Ilario Terblanche, also 22, an in- store representative for Incredible Solutions and engineering casual worker Randy Samuels, 26. Terblanche said they aimed to empower the youth and community not only in the northern areas, but around Nelson Mandela Bay.

However their first project this weekend will be on a much smaller scale.

“The four of us grew up together as neighbours in Roan Crescent, Gelvandale. In the centre of the crescent is a run-down public park which in its day was the hub of numerous physical activities in the area,” Terblanche said.
