‘Paid for doing nothing’

UITENHAGE event organiser Andrea Wessels was paid R758000 by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to fly to Johannesburg and visit three offices in Gauteng.

Wessels claims she was tasked to solicit funds for Laphum’ilanga, a taxi association which partnered with the municipality to roll out its new transport system. No money was ever generated during her visit.

This allegation forms part of the forensic report compiled by former National Prosecuting Authority boss Vusi Pikoli.

“Mrs Wessels was paid R758000 for doing nothing,” Pikoli wrote.
