Couple charged with theft from 20 houses

NOEL and Tanya Solomons targeted and stole from 20 showhouses across the country, the state alleges – and the number is likely to grow.

Faced with the overwhelming evidence against them, the two abandoned their bid for bail yesterday.

The couple were eventually nabbed by the Flying Squad in Summerstrand on August 8, after they allegedly stole valuables from showhouses in and around Port Elizabeth, Paarl, Somerset West, Brackenfell, George, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Cape Town and Durban. They have been in custody since.

It is alleged Noel, 33, and Tanya, 43, would visit open houses, using different aliases, and pretend they were in the market to buy.

When the home owners or estate agents were not around, they allegedly pocketed items such as iPods or expensive jewellery. They now face charges of theft and possession of stolen property.
