NELSON Mandela Bay’s waste disposal sites in Seaview and Uitenhage are in a mess because of a three-year contract that has not been renewed since June last year.
At Uitenhage’s Gillespie Street and Verwoerd Drive sites there are not enough bins, with garden and domesticwaste being dumped outside and piling up in the streets. As a result vagrants and animals have ransacked these sites and refuse is blocking the road.
One resident, Arnold Niemand, described the two sites as “an absolute disgrace”. He said: “It’s a serious health hazard and it’s a complete eyesore.”
There also are not enough bins at the Seaview site, where residents from seven areas are meant to dump their refuse.
