TWO popular sports personalities attended an event last night to raise funds for the Pearson High School band’s tour to Reunion Island.

Golfer Dave Usendorff and former Springbok captain Bob Skinstad were guests of honour at the event, where they were given a taste of the band’s music.

Tour organiser Susan Coetzer said the band had been invited to Reunion Island by the Ochestre Polyphonia as part of a cultural exchange programme.

Last night’s function at the school hall was aimed at raising money for the 42 children and five adults accompanying the group going to the island from September 22.

“They will have between 10 and 12 concerts for the duration of their stay. We also want them to be exposed to lots of historical activities in that area. Their counterparts, Orchestre Polyphonia, will visit Port Elizabeth from March 9 next year,” Coetzer said.
