AFTER years of poor service delivery, a Uitenhage group is calling for the small town to have its council and municipal administration restored.
Uitenhage, Despatch and Port Elizabeth were merged in 2001 to form theNelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
But the Garden Town Initiative (GTI) claims Uitenhage is now forgotten by the municipality and has become a “trash heap”.
GTI coordinator Dave McClaland described the town as a shadow of its former self.
“Ever since they took our municipality away from us it has become worse and worse,” he said.
McClaland said if the residents could run their own town they would “turn it around”.
“Just give us back our own municipality,” he said.
