UITENHAGE residents yesterday held a prayer service for Nelson Mandela, and for peace and stability, as part of the Zone 67 Days of Doing Good initiative.
Those who attended the event at the Solomon Mahlangu branch in KwaLanga, Uitenhage, had the opportunity to light candles.
The event aimed to remind the residents about Mandela’s legacy.
Head of the municipal human settlements portfolio, councillor Mbuyiseli Mkavu, said: “These candles have been lit to lighten the cloud over Tata Madiba.”
The event was initiated by the Solomon Mahlangu branch and was managed by Martin Pram, chairman or the Uitenhage Arts and Culture Organisation.
Pram said there was a high level of crime in the community and added that the organisers of the event hoped to identify projects as part of the Zone 67 initiative that would address the problems.
ANC councillor Zolani Ncwadi said Madiba stood for peace and stability and people should “pray for peace and stability among ourselves”.
