A KWANOBUHLE woman yesterday relived the horror of seeing a young neighbour mowed down in front of her by a hit-and-run driver.

Masonwabe Jafta was standing on the pavement in Fundam Street with a friend and the friend’s mother at about 6pm on Sunday when a 33-year- old man in a red Opel Monza ploughed into him.

The boy was flung several metres and landed in front of a house three doors away.

He was just two years old.

Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Marianette Olivier said the driver allegedly “came around the corner at a high speed and hit the little boy and did not stop”.

The suspect, who cannot be named until he appears in court, was arrested at about 1.30am yesterday and is expected to appear in the KwaNobuhle Magistrate’s Court today.
