PHUMULO Masualle will step up to the podium at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University indoor sports centre this week to address 1500 delegates at the ANC’s provincial elective conference.
Arguably the most powerful politician in the Eastern Cape, not only has Masualle led the party in its second biggest province for the past four years, ANC members believe he has done such a good job that this week they will give him another term in office.
A multi-tasker of note, Masualle is also the MEC of Finance and the chairman of the provincial planning committee, both central roles in defining the development path of one of South Africa’s poorest provinces.
Unlike the rest of the ANC’s top four officials he is uncontested, no mean feat for a leader in an organisation with a culture of robust and at times violent contestation from ambitious leaders all scrambling to get into power.
