THREE men appeared separately in the Jansenville Regional Court yesterday for the rape of two women and a child in the small Karoo town.
A 25-year-old man, who was found guilty of stabbing and then raping a 41-year-old mother last year, was sentenced to life in prison.
The state will also call for life sentences for the other two men for the rape of a six-year-old girl, the attempted rape of a 20-year-old woman and the rape of a 51-year-old woman.
Because one of the rapists is HIV-positive, he was also convicted of attempted murder.
The National Prosecuting Authority said yesterday it hoped a strong message had been sent out to the people that violence would not be tolerated.
Derrick Leising, 25, was sentenced to life in prison for what was described by magistrate Rene Esterhuizen as an “aggressive”, “degrading” and “humiliating” rape.
