A LOW-LEVEL bridge in busy Kabega Road, Kamma Ridge, is on the verge of collapse and desperate attempts by the ward councillor, Gustav Rautenbach, to have it included in the municipality’s budget for the past five years have fallen flat.
As the city prepares to adopt the annual budget for the 2013-14 financial year this month, Rautenbach is frustrated that he will have to wait yet another year before he can broach the topic.
But next year could be too late, as the bridge continues to deteriorate with every heavy rain.
Ward 8 councillor Rautenbach said the bridge, just off Kragga Kamma going towards Walker Drive, was a disaster waiting to happen.
“This is a very busy road, with trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles using this route but the ground beneath it could just give way any minute,” he said.
“I’m concerned about the safety of motorists because even the road looks like it is breaking into two, with cracks all over it.”
