THE emotional son of a Malabar businesswoman who was shot dead in a house robbery in 2010 told a Port Elizabeth court yesterday how he watched helplessly as his mother was killed.
Tied up and powerless to help, Iresh Chetty described how he saw his mother, Kantharubie Chetty, stagger and collapse on top of his friend who was also tied up.
Kantharubie, 55, who owned PE Hiring Services, died after being shot in the chest at close range.
Two men – Tanzanians Iddy Masood Baruti, 25 and Saddick Waswa, 24 – face charges of murder, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstance and housebreaking with intent to rob. They have pleaded not guilty. A third suspect was arrested but later released as he could not be linked to the crime.
The trial continues
