A NELSON Mandela Bay matriculant is one of six pupils from around the country representing South Africa at the 54th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Colombia, South America, in July.
Pearson High School pupil Shaylan Lalloo, 18, and five others – four from the Western Cape and one from KwaZulu-Natal – were chosen to compete in Colombia based on their performance in the SA Mathematics Olympiad and other olympiads organised by the SA Mathematics Foundation.
Shaylan is also taking part in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), one of the best- recognised computer and science competitions, in Brisbane, capital of the Australian state of Queensland.
“I am very nervous at the moment. I hope to come back with gold medals. I have been working very hard to achieve this dream,” he said.
