Long wait for houses ends for Peace Valley residents

PEACE Valley residents had something to smile about at the weekend, after Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Ben Fihla handed over more than 400 RDP houses to those relocated from shacks at Joe Modise, KwaNobuhle, last year.

About 500 people attended the handover of the 429 houses – including human settlements portfolio chairman Buyisile Mkavu, Ward 47 councillor Loyiso Stemele, ANC Women’s League members and other municipal officials.

Thenjiswa Sizeni, 44, who lived in a shack for eight years, heaped praise on the municipality.

“I was living in a very small shack with four children. It was very bad because it was leaking and we were forever worried it might be blown away by strong winds.
