DA councillors ‘assaulted official’

THE South African Communist Party (SACP) in Nelson Mandela Bay has called for two DA councillors to be suspended following an attack on a municipal official last week.

Police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property after the vehicle of an official from the department of human settlements was hit by a rock while he was driving in Missionvale.

The official did not want to comment on the incident, nor be named.

Nelson Mandela Bay SACP deputy chairman David Davidson, however, claimed Ward 31 councillor Penny Naidoo and Ward 32 councillor Sandra Fillis also assaulted the official while others held him down.

Both Naidoo and Fillis have denied the claims.

The city’s northern areas have been beset by violent protests in recent weeks as the ANC – to which the SACP is in alliance – clashed with the DA controlling the wards over the awarding of community development jobs.
