DISGRUNTLED Wells Estate residents resorted to violence last night after Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Ben Fihla failed to arrive for a meeting they had asked him to attend.
The meeting, which was held in the Wells Estate Multi-Purpose Centre in Sityhotyholweni Street, was attended by about 1000 residents who left the hall fuming after they were addressed by councillor Babalwa Lobishe.
The Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget for the area was meant to be discussed.
Residents blocked off the Addo Road entrance to Wells Estate by burning tyres and rubble and laying down boulders.
They pelted stones at a bus. Police fired two warning shots and the crowd dispersed.
