ANGRY protests turned into a dance of joy outside the Port Elizabeth High Court yesterday when residents of Tiryville in Uitenhage claimed victory in their battle with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality over land they are occupying.
The residents were taken to court by the municipality, who said they were staying on the land illegally.
The municipality had brought an application to have Maggie Jacobs and the rest of the residents evicted but had failed to fulfil the conditions for the matter to be heard in court.
This resulted in Judge Phakamisa Tshiki striking the matter off the court roll.
Municipal spokesman Mthubanzi Mniki said the municipality was studying the court decision and would decide which course to follow.
