Drive to ‘get city back on good footing’

CITY manager Dr Lindiwe Msengana- Ndlela is on a drive to get basic service delivery functioning in Nelson Mandela Bay, starting with repairing street lamps and water leaks and tarring roads.

Presenting her short-term plans for May and June yesterday as well as the work she has done in her first two months in office, Msengana-Ndlela said she was on a mission to get the city back on a good footing. Her report was hailed by councillors at a full council meeting.

In her report, Msengana-Ndlela listed some of the major challenges she has encountered since entering City Hall in March.

These include:

  • Incomplete integration of previous transitional councils into the metro post-2000;

  • Low levels of accountability and internal financial controls;

  • Several court cases; and

  • Vacancies in various departments.
