NELSON Mandela Bay’s Walmer Link Social Housing Project was named the best social housing project in the country at an event held earlier this month.

The project, aimed at providing rental accommodation in a well-located area of the city, received the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) award at a function held in Durban on April 18.

The development, situated along Buffelsfontein Road in Walmer, consists of 347 rental units of varying sizes, from 30m² bachelor units to 43m² one-bedroom units and 54m² two-bedroom units.

It provides a safe and secure environment, complete with 24 hour-a-day security and electric fencing. There are also good quality spacious rental flats with modern fittings and finishings.

The award is based on SHRA’s criteria and assessment on various Social Housing Institutions (SHI) in the country. The individual institutions do not enter the competition for the award.
