ABOUT 900 children will be the owners of brand new shoes next week when the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber hands over footwear collected during the One Day Without Shoes campaign.
The chamber encouraged its members and Nelson Mandela Bay residents to go barefoot in the boardroom and donate new shoes to children in the city.
The initiative took place yesterday and was driven by the chamber. It formed part of the international day started by TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie of the US six years ago to create awareness about children’s health and education plights.
The chamber will hand over the shoes to the four beneficiaries – the Protea Place of Safety, EP Child and Youth Care Centre, and the Stephen Mazungula and Charles Duna primary schools – on April 23.
