THREE serval cats born at the Royalston Wildlife Estate in Colleen Glen, on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth, are preparing to go wild ahead of their release into the Kwandwe Private Game Reserve near Grahamstown at the end of the week.
The cats – named Harley, Cain and Bailey – are now all more than a year old and will be relocated to Kwandwe which already has a population of wild serval.
Spokeswoman for the 100ha reserve Tracy Eke, who hand-raised one of the two males, Harley, said she would be sad to see the cats go.
“I have built up a close relationship with them, but our objective here is not to breed these cats, which appear on nature conservation’s threatened and protected species list.”
