ANC Nelson Mandela Bay councillor Aaron Nyikilana narrowly escaped death at the weekend when he was attacked and his vehicle set alight.

This was the fourth attack on the Motherwell councillor this year, the most recent previous incident being the petrol-bombing of his house almost two weeks ago.

A number of Bay councillors and a high-ranking ANC member have also been attacked in recent weeks.

A task team, led by Bay deputy mayor Chippa Ngcolomba, was set up on Friday to investigate the spate of councillor attacks.
