EASTERN Cape deputy provincial police commissioner Major-General Zamuthonga Mki has urged communities to help stop the murder of police officers.
Mki was speaking at the funeral of a Port Elizabeth police constable who was gunned down outside his Bethelsdorp home on March 18.
“We urge communities to stand with us against the killing of police officials and to assist us in ridding them from our midst,” he said.
About 300 friends, family and police officers gathered at the Word of Faith Christian Centre on William Moffett Expressway on Saturday for the memorial service of Constable Mark Isaacs, 27, who was killed in a suspected gang assassination.
Isaacs, described by his colleagues as a passionate crime fighter, died after being shot twice in the upper body. The Hawks are investigating the murder but no arrests have been made.
