PE public reluctant to use new buses

THE new IPTS buses run by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality have got off to a slow start with many driving around the city carrying very few or no passengers at all.

After taking four trips around the city on the new integrated public transport system, The Herald found a maximum of six passengers on one trip.

Most residents who use public transport in Port Elizabeth prefer taking taxis and the Algoa Bus Company buses as opposed to using the new transport plan which finally took off early this year.

There were just four passengers on a trip from Summerstrand to the city centre yesterday, and six on the return trip. Three passengers travelled from the city centre to Greenacres and two on the return trip.
