Adventure on the high seas for all

Shaanaaz de Jager

FOR many the idea of an adventure is nothing but a pipe dream, but for crew members on one of the world’s working tall ships, which caters for able and disabled persons, ending up with bruised bodies is worth every minute onboard.

Four Port Elizabeth friends, who co-own a yacht, are on board Lord Nelson for an experience where everyone becomes part of the crew and nobody sails as a passenger.

The Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST), a registered charity, owns and operates the tall ships Lord Nelson and Tenacious.

The ships are built to enable people of all physical abilities to sail side by side as equals. Lord Nelson arrived at the Port Elizabeth harbour from Cape Town yesterday with eight permanent crew members, four volunteers and eight voyage crew members.

They sail for Durban this morning.
