A POLITICAL exile from Zimbabwe who has been living in the Eastern Cape for a decade is considering returning to his home country to stand as an opposition candidate in parliamentary elections.
Roderick Chimombe, who is chairman of Zimbabwean political party the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in the province, said he had been asked to stand.
Chimombe was forced to flee his home country in December 2003 due to persecution and several attempts to kill him.
A date for the Zimbabwean elections has yet to be finalised after the country’s president and Zanu-PF leader Robert Mugabe wanted them to be held as early as March but later agreed to move the date to June.
