Our vote for ANC not in the bag – Numsa


AS thousands of striking Numsa workers marched through Port Elizabeth's city centre yesterday, the union's leaders warned the ANC not to take its votes for granted.


It hinted that should the government not ban labour brokers, its members' votes for the party in next year's election would, for the first time, not be guaranteed.


The march by about 3000 members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa was the biggest of all the gatherings held by the union in different parts of the country this week.


While the main purpose was to hand over a memorandum of demands to components sector employers, Numsa, the biggest affiliate of union federation Cosatu, flexed its muscles and threatened to reassess its commitment to vote the ANC back into power.
