I'm up for challenge of leading Safa – Jordaan

FORMER soccer World Cup chief executive Danny Jordaan will end months of speculation when he officially challenges for the most powerful seat in South African football tomorrow.


Although reluctant to confirm his nomination last night, Jordaan – who still calls Port Elizabeth his home – said he was ready to embrace the challenge of leading the SA Football Association when it holds its annual meeting tomorrow.


The deadline for nominations was midnight yesterday. Jordaan was nominated by 32 of the 52 regions as their candidate for Safa president.


"The newspapers are a bit ahead of themselves because the nominations only close tonight [last night]," Jordaan said.


"This is probably one of the most difficult periods in which to lead SA soccer but if people wish to nominate me, I am ready to consider that position.
