PE cop praised by UK police

THE Port Elizabeth vehicle theft investigator who helped UK police nab 14 members linked to an international vehicle theft and smuggling ring has been commended for his work by the elite British Special Operations Unit, a division of their Organised Crime branch.

In an address to British media, UK detective head Superintendent Lecky Grewal thanked Port Elizabeth detective Warrant Officer Gerhard Weyers and other South African police role-players for their part in taking down the cartel.

“More than 1000 statements were taken from victims and witnesses from as far afield as Redruth and Glasgow, and over 900 exhibits were seized,” Grewal said.
