Residents tired of broken promises

THREE years after the Joe Slovo West community in was promised houses, development in the area has yet to begin.

The provincial government had promised construction would begin in January, then in May, then in August, but nothing had happened yet, residents said.

Bhisho yesterday said the delay had been in “finalising the funding agreement”.

Last month, tempers flared when residents closed the only school in the area, Joe Slovo Primary. They were frustrated by the lack of decent houses and gravel roads in the area near KwaDwesi Extension. Tyres were burnt and the public order policing unit was called to manage the situation.
