Race to ready Blue Flag beach for summer

OFFICIALS are racing against time to ensure that Humewood Beach is ready for summer after the recent floods which devastated Nelson Mandela Bay’s only Blue Flag attraction. Economic development and recreational services executive director Zolile Siswana said work had already started and teams were working around the clock to get the beach shipshape in time for the festive season. The repairs to Humewood Beach alone would cost about R1.5-million.

“There has been extensive damage to the walkways and infrastructure. There has also been a lot of electrical damage and [we] need to replenish the sand because of soil erosion,” he said.
