THE Herald Christmas Cheer Fund brought a smile to more than 150000 people during last year’s festive season campaign and hopes to be just as successful this year.
And major sponsor Volkswagen has once again signed on by donating a VW Polo 1.4 Trendline for the Christmas Cheer Fund Car Draw competition – an upgrade from the Polo Vivo it initially donated.
Volkswagen Group South Africa general manager of communications Matt Gennrich said: “Volkswagen has been involved with this worthwhile initiative for a number of years.
“We are the biggest private sector company in the Eastern Cape and, of course, the metro.” Gennrich said that last year, the VW Group spent about R26-million on social investment projects, half of which was spent on the Eastern Cape.
“Our involvement in the Christmas Cheer Fund is further proof of our commitment to this region and the local community, and that we are indeed a company with meaning and impact.” Speaking at the 151st annual general meeting of The Sanctuary (PE Ladies Benevolent Society) last week, Beggar-in-Chief Steven Lancaster said the fund was vital to the community.
“What impressed me as Beggar-in-Chief was to see so many of the stakeholders there – the committee, the beneficiaries [and the] support crew that included a security company, a financial investment company, a politician and various charity fund administrators.
“And this is an incomplete list.
The collaboration that takes place around a community such as The Sanctuary confirmed something for me – The Herald Christmas Cheer Fund is vital,” Lancaster said. There are a number of ways in which people can donate to the fund:
- Look out for raffle tickets at various points or at one of the 17 charity partners;
- Hand cash or cheque donations to The Herald cashiers at Newspaper House in Baakens Street; or
- Deposit it to Christmas Cheer Fund (please do not use the abbreviated “Xmas”), First National Bank, account number: 53410726732 and branch code 261050.
