Bay bright with host of stars

NELSON Mandela Bay is set for an invasion by some of the country’s most popular soap stars, who aim to sing, dance and cook their way into residents’ hearts in efforts to raise money for charity.

As the stars from 7de Laan and Isidingo descend on the city this weekend, the main aim will be raising funds in the Missionvale Water 4 Life Charity Drive.

As part of the charity drive, the celebrities will head out to Missionvale tomorrow to hand out gumboots and create awareness about the project.

“The message is clear, we want to stand together and unite for a good cause. Water is a basic living need. Without it, life becomes impossible,” Radisson Blu sales and marketing coordinator Tatum Muller said.

Missionvale was one of the Bay’s poorest areas and residents collected water from distant sources, she said.

Isidingo stars Ashish Gangapersad (Prada) and Port Elizabeth-born Sisa Hewana (S’khumbuzo) – who won the 2010 nationwide Isidingo Talent Search competition – will host a Dancing with the Stars event at the Radisson tomorrow night.

On Saturday morning, the Isidingo stars will be at the Boardwalk, where fans can get their autographs for a donation of R10 from just after noon.

Joining the actors will be Idols SA 2011 finalist Crushanda Forbes. The singer will be one of the judges of a Singing with the Stars competition to be held at the Boardwalk Amphitheatre on Saturday afternoon.

Also on Saturday afternoon, 7de Laan stars like Melanie du Bois (Felicity), Nobuchle Mahlasela (Aggie) and Hildegardt Whites (Bonita) will join the Isidingo stars for a gala dinner at the Radisson.

Along with the many activities taking place at the weekend, a soccer tournament and potjiekos competition will be held at Summerwood Primary on Sunday. This opportunity will allow fans to play soccer alongside their favourite stars, at a cost of R30.

“It’s with great pleasure that we can welcome so many of our country’s top celebrities to the Bay. We at the Radisson Blu are looking forward to hosting the role models of South Africa,” Muller said.

Nelson Mandela Bay residents can catch their favourite stars at Greenacres mall and Cleary Park on Saturday at 11am for pictures and autographs. Some of these TV personalities can also be seen at the Boardwalk at 1pm on Saturday.
