A police constable from the Port Elizabeth K9 unit is in St Georges Hospital after the police van he was riding rolled on the N2 near the Deal Party turn off ramp this morning (13/01/2012).
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said that the officer was “receiving medical treatment” while the dog – which was being transported in the vehicles built in dog cage – had been taken to the vet.
“Both the dog and Constable are fine and receiving medical treatment. We are not sure what happened at this stage but we suspect that the driver lost control leading to the vehicle rolling,” he said. “The N2 was temporarily closed while police and traffic officials cleared the scene.”
